I know it’s been a little while since my last post but I’ve been pretty busy! I was hired to do a series of corporate portraits for Atypic, a communications company that has landed some pretty high-end contracts such as the 100th Anniversary of the Federation of the Chamber of Commerce of Quebec.
Thanks to a very friendly and enthusiastic staff, the entire process was enjoyable and amicable for both parties. Add on to that a very satisfied customer and I have to say that I’m extremely happy with the way the shots turned out!
A couple of my favorites (for the rest of them check out their website!):
—
The lighting setup was pretty simple.
The crew at Atypic told me early on they wanted a simple white background.
- Solution?
- Point a single Sb-800 unit at the background mounted on a gorillapod, sitting on a stool towards the white wall (because I only have two light stands!).
The second demand was that there be minimal shadows for an evenly lit portrait
- Solution?
- Shoot through umbrellas at 45 degrees creates a nice soft wrap light that basically smooths out and beautifies the skin, efficiently removing the bags under the eyes, wrinkles, and so on and so forth.
- A kicker light is essential to make portraits “pop out” , so I set up a second Sb-600 unit up in the rear at approximately 45 degrees shining downwards to make the hair “glow”.
- Finally, now that I was out of flashes, I needed something to light up the opposite side of my subjects faces! Steve Campbell was kind enough to lend me a huge 1/2 gold reflector to help me complete my light setup. (The 1/2 gold was to add a slight warm hue to the shadows! Brilliant!)
Happy customers, job well done, what more could I ask for?
